Injury is the body saying No!

I pulled up really sore after my long run last weekend. 3hrs with my running buddies went really well, and I was reasonably strong and fast. But as I walked from the car to the coffee shop at Fairfield Boathouse, on the banks of the Yarra river, I felt that something wasn't quite right.

At first I thought that my left hip was a little tight. Well, it probably should have been after thrashing it along the trails for 3 hours. But then tightness turned into pain, and before I knew it I was limping. Oh nooooooooooo.

Injury is a safety valve. It makes you slow down before you do some real, long term damage. It just feels that it's the end of the world.

Is all my training for this upcoming marathon wasted?

I don't think so. I have lots of miles under my belt. I have reasonable speed. I have Ok endurance. But of course my left hip hurts like hell. I ran 5km on a treadmill on Wednesday, and I was in real pain. I ran 7km this morning and while it felt better than Wednesday, it still felt terrible.

Steve, the physio, said i had a tight (xxxx) muscle. And that the ball/socket were a bit agitated in my left hip. He didn;t think it was stress fractures, since manipulating it helped it a lot. And of course Ibuprofen helps it a lot too.

Where am I? Well, given past injuries, I am about to get really grumpy for a few weeks. The brain doesn't cope well with injury. Maybe it's time to do a lot of miles on the bike.

With a 12hr rogaine next weekend, a marathon (7th October), and a 24hr rogaine all within the next 5 weeks, this is not exactly what I needed.

Nick, up in Canberra, is currently training for a marathon - february, I think.

This all sounds oddly familiar after listening to him!

I hope it's all healed by now. :-)
