Big Bay Challenge swim (and run)
Did a big day's workout last Sunday. Met friends in Williamstown and left my car there. We then ran 19km to the start of the Big Bay Challenge in Port Melbourne, stripped off and got into our wetsuits, then swam the 3.2km across from Sandridge Beach in Port Melbourne to Gem Pier in Williamstown.
Lots of Jellyfish in the water, especially around the mouth of the Yarra. There was quite a large swell running also, which made swimming hard. I got a bit lost at one point with a few others swimmers, and we swam together and tried to find the correct way to head to the finish. Probably 150 in the swim all up.
Generally a good swim (58.30 for 3.2km), but slow and hard in the large swell. I got stung a few times by the little yellow jellyfish, but a quick spray of vinegar at the end by the officials helped the stinging.
Felt Ok at the end, but a little tired.
