Tapering Mind Games...

I am deep into my Gold Coast Marathon taper, and playing mind games again. While my body gets a rest and I train less during this three week phase, I also start to doubt things.

Have I done enough training? Have I done enough long runs? Why don't my legs look as fit as they did last time I ran a marathon? Will I be able to run to my expectations? Aarrghhh.

Why does the mind doubt the effort that the body has already done. Why haven't I trained my mind enough to cope with this doubt? As I dig deep to find answers, I'll take it easy for a few more days tapering.

Red Yeti adventure race - commitment

I entered the Red Yeti adventure race today with a team of 3 others. It's the first big AR I will try, so I'm pretty excited about that. There will be a ton of training to do, and of course I'll have to do a few other races as well, so I'll have to train for those as well. Probably need to work on mountain biking at night again, and also paddling (which I suck at). Should be fun. Probably need new lights, hmm, what else. More gear shopping too, oh what fun!

Gold Coast Marathon - tapering

I have 2 weeks to go until the Gold Coast marathon. I've run this marathon twice before and had PBs there (3.37.55), and I hope to do the same again this year. My training has been a bit and up and down, and I have been feeling flat. But the speed is there, and the endurance is there, so hopefully my taper will help me freshen up enough to go long and fast. I ran 1.37 something for a hilly half marathon in May, so hopefully that will help.

I am also contemplating doing a long Adventure Race called Red Yeti which will be a 24-36 hour race with 3 others in early November 06. Not sure how much to train for a race like that, so I need to think hard about it after I finish Gold Coast and see how I pull up. There is also Melbourne Marathon and the Around the Bay bike ride. Lots to do.
